Melissa! Congratulations on the success of your documentary! I am anxious to view it and will keep checking back to your site periodically to see when I can catch a screening. I have not been able to make it to the last two screenings that I had hoped to attend. But I am determined to catch it!

    Take care,

Melissa Lowery delivered a keynote speech at our district’s convocation event on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Her speech was on point and I appreciated her emphasis that talking about equity/race can be an uncomfortable topic, but its ok… We should learn to “marinade in the discomfort”! The other point that spoke volumes to me was her comment that educators must listen to kids, parents, and families, so that a trusting relationship is established.

Melissa also presented her documentary film “Black Girl in Suburbia” to our community the next evening at Gresham High School Auditorium for 150 folks. I want to thank Melissa for sharing her personal story with us and for masterfully facilitating an open and thoughtful dialogue about equity/race.
